Employee Spotlight: Anastasia Zay

While Citi Performing Arts Center’s staff usually stays behind-the-scenes when the curtains rise, this June one of our very own will be sharing the stage with the legendary Earth Wind & Fire. As you might expect, our staff is passionate about the arts and includes many past and present artists—from actors to dancers to musicians and photographers. So when we found out that one of our own, Anastasia Zay, was going to perform with Earth Wind & Fire, we couldn’t resist bragging about it!

When Tasi (as she’s known by her colleagues) is not running around after her 5 year old daughter or in the office as Theatre Services Associate, she is busy practicing. Practicing what? In addition to her work at Citi Center, Tasi is a professional violinist. She received a Bachelor of Music degree from the Hartt School and a Master of Music degree from the New England Conservatory. Though admittedly quite shy, Tasi has performed on many a stage including Jordan Hall, Symphony Hall, Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, The Bushnell and our very own Wang and Shubert Theatres.

She has performed locally with various orchestras including Boston Lyric Opera, Hartford Symphony and American Ballet Theatre. She has performed as a guest artist with the Emerson String Quartet and as a backup musician for artists including Bjork, Jethro Tull, The Irish Tenors, Luciano Pavarotti, Yo Yo Ma, Diana Krall and Peter Gabriel.

When asked what her favorite memory of performing was, she said "Hands down....playing with Pavarotti at the Fleet Center. I actually had to pinch myself :)"

Tasi explained that for her, "What is wonderful about performing is the energy that is created from sharing and playing music with others. It is a unique experience to be surrounded by sound. For a performer the best seats really are on the stage. For me music encapsulates so many emotions. It is something I will always treasure having in my life."

As if this isn't cool enough, Tasi's husband will be joining her in the pit for Earth Wind & Fire as well! We are thrilled to have such a talented co-worker, and we can’t wait to cheer her on!
