March is Youth Art Month!

By proclamation of Governor Deval Patrick, March is Youth Art Month—described by the National Art Education Association as “an annual observance each March to emphasize the value of art education for all children and encourage support for quality school art programs.” In celebration, Mass Cultural Council and Creative Minds Unleashed! is currently showcasing examples of youth work on its online e-Showcase. Click here to see all of the entries, including three original songs written and performed by our very own City Spotlights Leaders.
At Citi Center, we are focused on youth access to the arts year-round. For 25 years, our arts education programming has encouraged hundreds of Boston youth to engage in the performing arts. Last week, we honored this 25 year arts education anniversary by honoring Ries and Netty Vanderpol, founders of the Walter Suskind Memorial Fund. The Fund supports Citi Center’s arts education programs, making them free to all participants. Click here to view photos from the event.
In the coming days, Citi Center will be celebrating Youth Art Month with blog posts from our leadership staff highlighting their personal arts experiences. We hope you’ll check back in to read how the arts have shaped their professional and personal lives.
