Boston-based trombonist Michael Prentky takes pride in aiming to improve musical situations through great musicality, professionalism, and cordiality. He received his BFA from New England Conservatory in Jazz Performance. With a wide appreciation of music, trombone has taken Michael everywhere from performances on "sackbut" (ancient trombone) with the Renaissonics, Mozambican dance parties with Kina Zoré, R&B shows with Lilla, and all across the spectrum of Jazz from Bebop to Free. He also is proud of his event planning resulting in weekly residencies and tours for Kina Zoré as well as the two night Aputumpu Music Festival.
In addition to performing, Michael's life is greatly enriched by the opportunities he has to teach. While at NEC, Michael received the Music-In-Education certificate. NEC has since hired him to co-lead their Music Launch general music program for children where he conducts the class and coaches NEC interns. He has held teaching positions at NEC Summer Jazz Lab, Camp Encore-Coda, and ZUMIX music school. Michael also has a private studio of brass students in Boston, Newton, and Cambridge who regularly perform recitals.
