Born in rural Texas, his early life experiences shaped the powerful storytelling in his works, including the iconic 'Revelations'. In 1958, he founded the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, creating a space that celebrated the African American experience and uplifted diverse voices in the arts. His legacy continues to inspire, proving that dance has the power to connect, heal and bring people together across generations.
