200 Años de Musica Mexicana Coming to Boch Center Wang Theatre August 31

Boston, MA (April 9, 2019) – The Boch Center and AEG announced today that Banda El Recodo & Mariachi Vargas de Tecatitlán will unite their musical legacies for the “200 Años Música de Mexicana Tour,” slated to take the Boch Center Wang Theatre stage on Saturday, August 31 at 8:00PM. Tickets go on sale to the general public Friday, April 12 at 10:00AM.
The extensive tour takes its name from the time that together the two groups have remained relevant, present, and successful. Banda El Recodo recently celebrated its 80th anniversary, while the famed and mythical Mariachi Vargas de Tecatitlán was founded 120 years ago.
“We decided to bring together Banda El Recodo and Mariachi Vargas for a tour in which both groups will perform their greatest hits together on the same stage. This is completely different to what’s being done currently in the music industry. Oftentimes, these types of projects are difficult to solidify, but fortunately, in this case, we were able to make it happen and I think the results are going to be very positive. Through this historic tour, “La Madre de Todas las Bandas” (The Mother of all Bands), as El Recodo is colloquially known, and “El Mejor Mariachi del Mundo” (The Best Mariachi in the World), which is what the Mariachi Vargas is considered, will bring together multiple generations of music fans, who will be able to enjoy the best of these two musical genres. These ensembles have left their imprint in the history of music in Mexico and through their songs have transcended borders and remained relevant over the years.
