Boston Teens to Use the Arts to Tackle Current Events at Youth Arts For Social Change Summit
Boston, MA (February 25, 2019) – The Boch Center’s Teen Leadership Council will host its fourth annual Youth Arts for Social Change Summit on Saturday, March 2, 2019 from 12:00PM – 4:00PM at Hibernian Hall in Roxbury’s Dudley Square. The summit is a free annual gathering of young people inspired to advocate for social change through the arts.
Summit attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a collaborative art making workshop; engage in dialogue regarding shared initiatives and best practices; hear brief presentations from various Boston youth groups and organizations advocating for social change through the arts; and showcase their own art in an open mic/talent show and visual art for social change gallery/contest.
“Now in its fourth year, the Youth Arts for Social Change Summit seeks to strengthen connections between young people and their communities by offering a platform for teen leaders to share their voice through the arts while encouraging a culture of collaboration,” said Josiah A. Spaulding, President & CEO of the Boch Center. “In previous sessions, teens have used the arts to explore issues of gun violence, sexual assault, immigration, race, discrimination, bullying and more. We anticipate another very timely and thoughtful discussion to take place on March 2 and encourage all Boston youth to participate.”
The Youth Arts for Social Change Summit is a free program, and all teens, organizations and programs that work with young people, and those who support youth, students, artists and activists, are welcome to attend. It is an opportunity for local teens and organizations to come together and learn from each other. The summit seeks to spark a transformation in the way youth think about social change.
Media representatives are welcome to attend. Please RSVP by emailing Michelle Chapman at mchapman@bochcenter.org.
