The Week of July 15th - July 19th

By Serge Ganthier

This week was a major week for the Teen Leaders. It was their first performance of the program! It was at the Massachusetts State House and they were given the opportunity to come face to face with the state legislators and advocate for their theme this summer, Human Rights.

Leading up to their State House performance, they had advocacy blocks throughout the week. During those blocks they were able to create scripts, come up with questions and rehearse what they wanted to say to the state legislators that were coming out to the event. They were able to harness conversations about homelessness in Boston, immigration/redlining within the neighborhoods and the future of the city with potential obstacles that may happen to this country such as Project 2025. Thank you to Representative Jay Livingstone, Representative Christopher Worrell, and Representative Rob Consalvo for stepping up and answering the questions and concerns for the Teen Leaders and making it a welcoming space for them to speak their minds and advocate!

At the end of the conversation with the state legislators, they were able to perform an original song to them. Together, the Teen Leaders in Music Specialty made the group song for the summer. The song is called “Sunny Days Aren’t Far Behind” and was created in a span of a week during music specialty with different styles of genre in the verses such as soulful R&B and Hip-Hop/Rap. They were able to teach the song to the rest of the program and successfully, everyone was able to pick up the song easily and give it a unique character for the performance.
