Week 3

As a part of the City Spotlights Leadership Program, teen leaders are required to participate in Flashmob Day. Flashmob Day is the event in which the teen leaders go out into the downtown Boston area and perform a group dance for anyone who is interested in watching. From my perspective, Flashmob Day serves as a great way to spread awareness of our program and what we do here at City Spotlights by getting people’s attention to our program. In preparation for the Flashmob, we spent a week learning choreography from the Flashmob instructor, Tayla Dixon, and supported the teens in figuring out where they would feel most confident regarding formation in the dance. Flashmob rehearsals were very effective, and we barely faced any challenges. Of course, a challenge we did face a few times was encouraging teens to find that confidence they felt like they lacked for this who are not familiar with a dance background. Despite this issue, the day of Flashmob Day was very successful. Many teens performed with confidence and overall had so much fun dancing throughout downtown Boston.
