Week 4

By Catherine Giorgetti

In our fourth week, we spent our final days before workshop tour running the workshop and getting to a place where the teens felt really prepared. The group that I’m with, STARZ, was the final workshop group to present their workshop to the full group, and I was really impressed with how they took feedback from the other groups and used that to improve their workshop. After they presented to the full group and got feedback, they were really methodical about how they incorporated notes. The work they put in really served them well when it came time to lead their workshops on tour.

I saw a lot of the teens in my group really come out of their shells as we were in front of really different groups in our first week of tour. On our first day, we had a big group of kids 7-10 years old, who really brough the energy. They loved the teens’ performances and were excited to put on a performance together themselves. One teen who was helping a small group realized that none of the kids in their group spoke English and was able to pivot really well by finding their group members who spoke Spanish and switching groups. I was really proud of their fast thinking and being able to adjust on the spot so that their participants could also have the best time.
